The gut microbiome is known as the body’s second brain, since it’s linked to our digestion, immunity, brain function, metabolism, and hormones. It plays a huge role in our health.
In this episode, I talk with Katey Chambers, founder of RI4Wellness all about how to support your gut health! Katey gives us the scoop on what is gut health and 4 easy ways we can improve our gut health.
4 Easy Ways to Support Gut Health
The gut microbiome consists of trillions of microbes (bacteria, viruses, and fungi) that live in the intestines. There are up to a thousand species of bacteria in the gut microbiome, both good and bad. As we age, our microbiome changes, becoming less diverse and prone to the growth of more bad bacteria, requiring more support to increase the levels of good. Our goal is to increase the level of good bacteria.
- Eat a diverse range of plants.
- Incorporate fermented foods, such as yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, pickles, miso, tempeh, kimchi, sourdough bread, or kombucha.
- Give your body time to restore itself by shortening your eating window.
- Support your gut health through daily exercise and by implementing a wellness practice.
The gut microbiome is known as the body’s second brain, since it’s linked to our digestion, immunity, brain function, metabolism, and hormones. It plays a huge role in your health. Research also suggests the gut microbiome may benefit heart health, help control blood sugar, and cholesterol. By implementing positive changes, we can begin to heal the gut and improve our mental and physical health.
